The question that is on the hot sheet this week is, "When and
how can we get into the animation and film editing classes?" At
present, I am working out a program with the makers of the animation
software, we are going to teach. For anyone who’s curious about the
software, go to NewTek.com. We will be using the Lightwave 3D animation
program and SpeedEdit for post production. I want to work it out so
that the classes can be offered on a sliding scale, ability to pay, basis.
Because of this, I won’t be able to offer the classes until after we get
the ground floor of the Grand View open and operating, as I am counting on
income from the hotel to finance the classes.
Ozarts to produce promotional video for Berryville.
Berryville has a tremendous volume of traffic sailing past our doors.
We have to put up with it, but we’re really not benefitting from it. We’re
losing a lot of potential tourist trade, because they are not aware of
what Berryville has to offer. To help turn the corner, on this, I will be
working with Mike Ellis and the Berryville Chamber of Commerce to produce
a video promoting tourism in Berryville. The video will focus on the
Square and the tourist sites available in and around the town. The
completed video will be available on DVD and converted to web standards
for Berryville, to use in promotion and add to their web site.
This is the beginning of an ongoing Ozarts project document the history
and life of Carroll County. If you have suggestions for interesting focal
points please email or mail me your idea.
More news on the Grand View.
The business plan for the Grand View is in a state of metamorphoses.
This is due to a number of factors. I’m working on a press release, for
all the local papers, that will explain the changes and give the direction
we’re going in. The core is still opening the ground floor as a coffee
shop and bakery. With the bakery cases and coffee in the lobby and seating
in the dinning room and the two porches on either side of the stairs. As I
stated in last weeks column, we’re hoping to make one of the spaces Local
Harvest, a local foods market. I’m going to need help to make
this into a reality. Anyone interested in being a part of this please
contact me.
Can you Can, Can? One of the problems with having produce is
getting all the produce sold in time. To make sure the produce stays fresh
and so there isn’t waste. This is why I’d like to find out if there
are skilled canners out there that would like to work with the market, to
can surplus produce. I realize there are some hurtles to this, but the
upside is incredible. There is nothing that could come close to my
grandmother, Nanny’s, canned string beans. I couldn’t believe they
came from the same planet as the canned beans in the store. The canned
items would be sold through the market and used in the Grand View, to
extend our use of local produce.
The newest decision is to turn the eastern store front into an
antique mall with booth space for rent. This is a prime location, right
next to the Berryville post office, and attached to the Grand View Hotel.
To keep the window interesting and give more booths a chance to have
something up front, the large picture window will be used to display
selected items from the store on a rotating basis. We are still working
out the details of space rental, but if you are interested in renting
booth space, please contact me at the gallery.
