Kids be sure to stop by Ozarts Gallery
during the Halloween walk, on Berryville Square, between 4
and 6pm. Come back at 6:00 to see who wins. There will be
prizes for cutest, scariest, most original, and best costume
overall.
I have many things to cover, in a short
space, so I apologize if my writing is a little staccato
this week. First I’d like to thank the Patriots’ Herald
for providing this space to support the Ozarts mission. I
know that a lot of people don’t have internet, or have
dial up connections, so slow, that you consider bamboo under
the fingernails less painful, than typing to open a web
page.
On to Circle the Square, the
musical events Ozarts produced this year. Bringing live
music to Berryville is a big part of our overall mission
with Ozarts Center for the Arts. For those who are
interested, once we have the legal details worked out, we
will be releasing a live CD of Sue Ann O’Neal’s
performance at the second concert. We didn’t get a good
master from the first concert, but we do have some Opal Fly
CDs for sale in the gallery and they are well worth having.
She’s a real jazz master. The first time I heard her music
the hair stood up on my forearms. I know what it
means to miss New Orleans. Her music soothes my longing for
the sound that is the heart of that city.
We would like to produce ten events next
year and we will spend the winter months lining up the
artists and sponsors. Any person, business, or organization
that would like to offer sponsorship for these events please
contact us at the gallery.
Musicians and booking agents please drop
by with your music, to be considered for Circle the Square,
and have your music sold through Ozarts. This is more than a
chance to perform in front of a great crowd, Ozarts will be
producing live CDs from each show. Once the coffee shop is
open in the Grand View, we will have a stage set up in the
dining room that will remain set up, at all times, for open
mike as well as scheduled music.
We are also looking for individual
musicians, to form a band, for a local singer. We need a
lead guitar, base (we prefer someone who can play electric
and upright), and a keyboard player. The profile we are
looking for is 18 to 25, someone who has a long term
commitment to a career as a musician, prepared to put some
real time into rehearsals, and would be able to tour. A
musician who can multi task, especially play brass, will
have an edge. The style of music will be broad, a love of
blues and jazz, would be helpful.
New in the gallery this week, we have an
independent comic "I Die Every Night" by
Blake Winter, who went to highschool, here in Berryville,
and is now working in California. If you’re a serious
collector you will want one of these limited editions. This
is a deep thinker story and has cool funky art. I think it
is a prologue of great things to come. If you’re an
independent publisher with work you would like considered
for sale through Ozarts please stop by with your work and
let us take a look.
An art collectors mystery to solve.
There is a special art find in the gallery. It involves more
than one piece of art. All the pieces are for sale, but what
makes it extra cool, may not be the art that is for sale.
This is something Sandra and I noticed one day when we were
arranging the gallery and we feel it’s the kind of find
that is definitely worth collecting and that the sum value
is worth much more than the cost of the individual pieces.
See if you can crack the mystery. No fair telling if
you’re one of the few we’ve shown. Happy Hunting.
If your looking for Christmas presents the
Ozarts Gallery is a great place to start. We have reasonably
priced pottery, local handmade jewelry, and gifts, as well
as fine art for that special some one, and gift certificates
if you want to leave, the choice, to them.
Support Ozarts by donating your previewed
videos, DVDs, and CDs. Clean out your closets and
bookshelves and help Ozarts. Please come by and give us a
browse, we’ve got some great movies for sale. All profits
from the gallery go towards Ozarts Center for the Arts.
I’ll have more details for you next
week. Please feel free to send me your questions by mail, or
email. I will do my best to incorporate answers in future
columns.
