Wood Work

Restoration of the Grand View’s wainscoting and wood trim continues. Sandra is finally actually putting stain on the wood after repeated scrubbing, sanding, and steel wooling. Imagine a book case or table top you’ve refinished, with heavy scuffing, years of grit, stains, water damage, lots of cracks to get into, four feet wide, hundreds of feet long, plus a dozen windows of amour depth and size, hundreds of feet of chair-rail, and an assortment of doors and trim pieces. I’m very proud of Sandra, she works until she’s ready to drop and views every inch of trim as part of a fine cabinet. I’d like to thank Kelly from Encore clothing, on the square, for coming through with some much needed t-shirts when we were faced with the reality of how many rags we were going to need for this project. The process is slowing us down, but we want to preserve the original look of the hotel, so painting it, to speed the opening up, wasn’t an option. What’s the point of having hundreds of feet of wainscoting, without a single knot, if you paint it.

Web site update: I have put new pictures on the web site. There are pictures of the first coat of stain going on. The new kitchen sub-floor going in. My buddy-brother Doug Conners, came down from Joplin to give us a hand putting down the floor. It’s always gives us such a boost when we get a burst of help from the outside. We are grateful for Doug taking time off from his restoration project to come down and work on ours. And speaking of thanks I would like to thank Erin Hayes for her very generous donation. When she stopped by, I had just finished boxing in some pipes. A project that I hoped would take a half an hour, but due to the awkwardness of the space, took two hours, once I got up on the scaffolding. It was an amazing pick up for both Sandra and myself. I think we sort of dog along between these little blessings and when they come we have a moment of thanks and then push a little harder at our work.

BANDS BANDS BANDS

If you are part of a band and are looking for a venue, The Grand View is dedicated to bringing live music to Berryville square. As funds will be limited when we open, we would like to offer bands, looking for a place to play, the chance to put on a shows in the ball room and pass the hat. As things improve with us, so shall they improve for the bands. Working together we can develop a live music scene here in Berryville which will be good for everybody. We are looking for all types of music. If you’re interested send in a demo, or put one through the slot of the Ozarts Building.

Jazz musicians, I would really like to have an open jam night for Jazz. When I lived in New Orleans, some of the best music I heard was at open jams and we would really like to see it happen at the Grand View. Keep us in mind and talk to your friends. If you’d like to be notified please send me a letter, or email.

Sponsoring the Grand View and Ozarts

The Grand View is for everyone. If you would like to make a donation to the restoration of the Grand View you may do so at any Arvest Bank, by donating to the Ozarts account. If you would like to be thanked publicly send your donation to Ozarts. Any size donation would be helpful as it encourages us to know that people are behind the restoration of the Grand View. Any groups who would like to do a fund raising campaign for us please contact me, we could really use the help. We also greatly appreciate being in your meditations and prayers.

Calling all Disk Jockeys and Bands! We are looking for disk jockeys for Friday and Saturday night dance parties and to be available for private events. Contact us and let us know what you’ve got. We want to have a lot of live music in the Grand View, so bands let us know your available.

Ozarts is still looking for: Artists, Independent Publishers, Bands, musicians, and potters. Please feel free to send me your questions by mail, or email.
